Zoothérapie
: Terme utilisé pour désigner l'ensemble des thérapies
psychologiques qui utilisent un animal domestique - la
plupart du temps un chien, un
chat ou un cheval
(parfois des dauphins en
captivité) - pour diminuer l'anxiété du patient et ainsi faciliter
la communication avec le thérapeute. EX: Dans
le traitement des autistes, on utilise un chien pour diminuer les
craintes du patient ou simplement pour augmenter son intérêt pour
le traitement. Il convient de noter qu'en zoothérapie, l'animal ne
se substitue pas au traitement. En ce sens, l'usage du terme zoothérapie
est inapproprié puisque l'animal constitue davantage un outil ou
un accessoire qu'une technique ou un principe thérapeutique (un
peu comme l'ordinateur en cyberthérapie).
Néanmoins, il semble que ce néologisme soit passé dans l'usage.
